Thinking Delirium
This module is for all staff caring for older adults admitted to acute hospitals with fragility fractures. Older age and major fragility fractures—such as hip fractures requiring surgery—significantly increase the risk of delirium. Some patients arrive with delirium, while others develop it during their hospital stay, yet it is frequently missed. Delirium is a medical emergency with serious consequences.
The module aims to ensure that all team members understand delirium and its impact, can recognise it early, and can take prompt action to reduce its severity and duration. By promoting shared knowledge and teamwork, the module supports effective, coordinated delirium care.
